Photographer Checklist

Before you start shopping for a photographer, you should define what exactly are you looking for and write down your own checklist. This way it will be easier for you to compare the photographers you do consider.

Before talking to a photographer make sure you have a definitive date for your wedding, as your first question will be if the photographer is available for your date.

If the photographer is available, here are some questions that can help you realize if he is the one for you.

  • How long have you been in business?
  • Who will be doing your wedding? How much wedding's experience does that specific photographer have?
  • For how long will the photographer be available?
  • What will be the key moments that will be photographed (the cutting of the cake, for instance)?
  • Where will the photos be taken?
  • What packages and prices are available?
  • Will there be an invoice/receipt for the amount paid?
  • How long will take to have the photos ready?
  • What types of photos will be used? Film or digital? Color or black and white?
  • Will the photos be available online?
  • What exactly will be delivered - prints, an album, a DVD?

Make sure you ask the photographer for examples of his past work. Try to see complete albums whenever possible. That will give you a better notion of what will be delivered to you than a "best of" collection.

Finally, make sure you speak directly to the photographer that would do your wedding so that you can see if get along with him and if appear to be reliable. After all, the photographer will be there in all the key moments of your wedding and he will be instrumental in how will remember that special day.
