Invitations

The wedding invitations you choose should reflect the style you have chosen for the wedding, be it formal or informal, classic or modern.

Either way the wedding invitation should state:

  • Who is inviting
  • What you are inviting for (the ceremony, the reception or both)
  • Where it will take place
  • When it will take place (date and time)
  • How to reply (usually phone numbers

If the ceremony and the reception will take place in different locations, make sure to mention it in the invitation.

If the reception will not start immediately after the ceremony, make sure you mention it as well, specifying the time for each.

If you will be having a specific dress code, you should mention it as well. No one likes showing up in a black tie wedding underdressed.

Depending on the number of invitations you need and on how much time you have available, you can write the text on the invitations by using one of the following methods:

  • Hand written
  • Printed at home (in this case you would need to make sure you buy invitations that can be printed in your printer, which will generally call for simpler formats)
  • Printed by the company that will supply the invitations (this will allow for more sophisticated formats and also for specific details like embossed lettering or gold or silver printing)

Should you choose to print at home write the invitations by hand, you can consider using specialty papers (colored, transparent, using plant seeds) or decorative elements like tulle, fabric, satin bows or others.

Should you choose to have the invitations company print them, ask for a sample in which you can check dates and locations are correct. This can help avoid a lot of last minute problems.

When deciding the text for the invitations, use the following guidelines:

  • Do not mention the name of those you are inviting in the invitation itself. If you leave that information for the envelopes, it will make it easier to print the invitations.
  • If you are inviting a couple that does not live together send an invitation for each.
